Time for a bit of plugging of my new website, its called RadioTag. Find it here:

Radio Tag | Online Radio, not hard to find any more!

Basically it is a tagging system (similar to del.icio.us, flickr and YouTube), but its for Online Radio stations. Anyone is allowed to sign up for an account, add details about their favourite online radio stations and tag them - then other people can comment on those radio stations. Enjoy! Please feel free to join up and folksonomise.

(Also if you are part of an online radio station then you could advertise for £2 a month)

I’ll see you there!

Thank you,

Daniel Lewis.

Tech News

In tech news, I have been doing some development for an online shop, making their website more search engine friendly, and at the same time making it stick to standards (XHTML, CSS and Unobtrusive Javascript). I have had to create a little Ruby script which extracts data from all of the existing files (as its a static/non-database online shop created in dreamweaver, and is plain html), my script uses regexps as all of the product files have the same structure… if it was proper XHTML I could have used XPath, but hey-ho. Once the website is up then I’ll let ya know.

In other tech news I have needed to experiment with rounded corners, and every tutorial I follow involves making images of rounded corners and then img linking them. However, I was looking through the WSG digest today, and someone mentioned Spiffy Corners:

Spiffy Corners - Making anti-aliased rounded corners with CSS

How fantastic is Spiffy Corners! No javascript, no images just pure CSS using a combination of border, margin and padding prefs with a neat little display and array trick.

Eventually when all the browsers upgrade to full CSS3, we’ll be able to make rounded edges (and other things like drop-shadows) really really easily.

I had to buy a new AC Adapter for my iBook G4 again on Monday, grrr… its such a poor design, everything else on the iBook is such a wonderful design, its the power plug that lets it down. Apple have seen this problem and completely changed the design of the plug for the new intel based laptops.

We are moving on Saturday (actually I pick up the keys on Friday), I am really looking forward to it… its such a nice flat. Need to sort out the broadband in there as soon as possible otherwise I won’t be able to do much work unless I go to the Uni computer room, but unfortunately the broadband providers can’t sign us up until after the BT line has been activated, which is Friday (and then the broadband providers will probably have to have a few days to switch it on - lazy gits). We are considering Toucan or Bulldog, we would prefer an uncapped service but we need to save our money… two companies we probably wont go with are NTL because of their pants customer services (and yes I know Bulldog is a service by Cable & Wireless which is now owned by NTL, but they should be better) and Pipex because they messed about with our current service cancellation by taking random bits of money out of the bank account - not good! If you know of any good, cheap and preferably uncapped broadband providers (in the UK) then give me a comment. Unfortunately we are not allowed to change the services, in other words we can’t move away from BT for the phone line.

Yes the Vanir Systems website is currently down, it should be back up by tomorrow. Its because I am transfering things over to a different host.

Please be patient.

My vanirsystems.com and vanirsystems.co.uk email is also down, so don’t send any emails to those accounts.

Thanks,

Daniel

Tech & Business News

Right, today I have been experimenting with ZenCart with one of my clients (through Vanir Systems)… looks like a good shopping cart web app, and I’d love to adapt it in some way (I know a way, but not going to tell you :p )

As Vanir Systems I am also now a WSG Member: Web Standards Group

The Vanir Systems Web Dev page now shows the icon: Vanir Systems - Web Development

As Vanir Systems I have also gained another client, it sells adult products :|

Theres a clustr map on my blog now… should be fun to see where my readers come from.

Hmm, just had a charity person knock on my door. Sounds like an interesting charity, they help women that are in need of help - they are the YWCA (seems like a female version of the YMCA). If I was a lot better financially then it may be one of the charities that I’d help out, I know that people can have psychological problems and it is a big issue… fragile humans - wish I could help. — Its like one of my friends earlier on was talking about her friend in lebanon, and I know it sounds cheesy but why can’t people just get along?

Thanks for reading.

Today I will mostly be developing an Ontology - “O-Rly?” you say, “Ya Rly!”, “Srsly?! No Wai”

Anyways, Just getting the newest Protege, had an older version but I thought I’d get the newest one because of the rapid changing world of Semantic Web and Intelligent Systems. Protege is a really good graphical way of editing knowledge bases, it accepts quite a few languages including OWL and RDFs… its cool, if you are in the RDF or Semantic Web world then check it out if you haven’t already.

Other than Protege, I am making home made pizza today… just made the base, much better consistancy than before. Making it in advance so that we can just shove it in the oven later on. If you want the recipe then comment :p

Microsoft HQ apparently like Olives, the LugRadio crew called the MS-HQ: Tuscany.NET - this weeks LugRadio Episode is sounding quite good (listening to it now).

anyways… down to work - protege download has now finished.

Talke Toie Youie Laterie.

Yay!!! I have now got my iBook-G4 back.

AppleCare replaced my damaged Logic Board (which the video & graphics circuit had broken), and they either rescrewed or replaced my DC Circuit Board (which was acting a bit weird now and then), and they also replaced my keyboard (which some of the letters had been rubbed off). Not bad for a total of just over £235. Nice one Apple! They also cleaned the laptop from head to toe, its all nice and shiney and white again :-)

Ciao for now dudeos.

My blog page is now semantically enhanced - it has details about me and the blog posts in RDF/a.

You can see the RDFa using the RDFa Highlight tool or GetN3 from the W3C RDFa Bookmarklet site

This is all part of my research and development by the way - and its also a sneaky way to promote the use of Meta-data.

[EDIT]
Forgot to say that I added Geotags / GeoURL as well
