It is Palm Sunday today (in most Christian Calendars), and my day started off with a quick blessing of the palms service at my Church (St Margaret’s in Oxford), we then processed down Woodstock Road in the pouring rain singing hymns with the 2 choirs (of St Margarets and St Giles Churches) and holding palm crosses (two members of the choir holding candles, one member of the choir holding a Processional Cross, one member of the choir holding a Thurible). It was awesome seeing a load of people watching us process, taking photos, so many smiles from within the procession and outside of the procession. The Vicar (Rev. Andrew Bunch) was giving out palm crosses to everybody that we passed, and he even went in some of the shops (and the pharmacy) to give them a cross, and everybody who Andrew gave a cross to seemed really pleased to receive one.
We were processing down to St Giles Church (the other Church in the United Benefice), where the rest of the service took place, including a “Dramatic Reading of the Passion Narrative” and a Holy Communion.
This is one of the great things about Christianity (and many other religions), it gets people together to share and unite.
Peace be with you
Daniel
