Hi All

Just finished my XOOPS CMS redesign for one of my clients - quite similar to the default, but with the Zine, Articles and xcGallery module add-ons. I hope that he likes it. As soon as I get to update my hosting package, then I will be able to host his site properly, its annoying that this one has taken a while to do, I have had so many different versions and they just haven’t been good enough to either my standards or the clients.

My other client project is going well though, I have a meeting with this other client in a few weeks to discuss things and to get to know each other better. I will be giving him a dynamic online shop.

(I obviously can’t tell too much about this because of disclosure things - but when the two websites are done I will be able to provide you guys with final links)

I have been playing about with the Xoops Content management System for a client - it seems really easy to use.

So, if you want an installation… then you can pay me!

  • Plain installation and hosting for 1 year: £50
  • Installation, hosting and redesign: please ask

Here I go again, me and my crazy ideas. I have gone and created an online shop (powered by ZenCart), for selling Postcards, Birthday cards, Holiday cards etc that are somehow religious inclined.

Anyone think this is a good idea? Anyone want to create some graphics for such an idea? Get in touch.

The (temporary-and-quickly-designed) is available here: http://www.vanirsystems.co.uk/religiouscards/

On one of the websites I am creating (and well overdue to finishing), I need to create an admin section (in PHP or Perl) so that the person that I am doing it for can automatically do the following:

  • Add/edit-titles/delete (including uploading) pictures
  • Add/edit/delete links
  • Add/edit-titles/delete (including uploading) sounds
  • Add/edit/delete “references”

I would have liked to have done this using XML (e.g. changing the XHTML into a PHP/Perl Object, accessing its variables (e.g. adding a link) and then changing back from a PHP/Perl Object into XHTML), but I have only done this using Ruby :(
Should I give up on this idea and go for a database connection and tables (not liking this idea as it involves database connections PHP version 4 to MySQL version 4)? Maybe I’ll end up doing this anyway tomorrow, but it’ll require more setting up on my laptop to be able to test properly, unless I keep on ftp-ing things to the server for testing… hmph.

Any ideas would be of great help, if you want to help with coding that would also be of great help (unfortunately not able to pay :( , but you never know, in the future I may be able to pay for any work that may go your way… just clutching at straws).

Bah, that is all for now (sorry about the grumpy mood - got loads of work to do, and little money).

Daniel

The computing society now has a shop selling clothes and gifts thanks to Vanir Systems. Its linked in with the wiki, the forum and the main page. But here is the direct page:

http://www.brookescomputingsociety.org/shop.html

Its all going well, the freshers should start appearing tomorrow. In fact, i know that they will. I am doing the Guiding for the Computing and Mathematics department - I have a very red t-shirt! See picture:

If you are reading this and are a fresher (2006) at Oxford Brookes, and see me - then say hello :)

I have just sorted out the Brookes Computing Society Website:

http://www.brookescomputingsociety.org/

We now have:

  • A Wiki powered by MediaWiki, which will be the main part of the site
  • A Forum powered by Vanilla Forum

It is also being hosted by the Computing Department at Brookes. Its on a server called Tardis (a Sun Microsystems Machine powered by Debian).

I guess I should add this to my Vanir Systems portfolio, as technically I have made most of it, and I maintain it… but it is all volunteer work.

I still need speakers for ComputerWeeks06, a two week long event where we have speakers from the computing industry. Please leave a comment or email me to let me know whether you would like to speak in Oxford, UK (and work/research in an area of the Computing Industry).

So, the first Vanir Systems Managed Shop has been released and is available through the Vanir Systems Website HERE ( http://www.vanirsystems.co.uk/shops/joes/ )
The shop has clothing and gifts with artwork by Joe Kitridge on it. All payments, printing and handling of the products are provided by eQuisto, and the site is fully secure. Vanir Systems manage the scanning, copyrighting, uploading and labeling of the products.

If you would like an image that is on (for example) a t-shirt but not on (for example) a mousemat or a teddy bear then let me know and I can arrange that for you.

Thanks,

Daniel Lewis.
